The Feeling of Place

I am an abstract landscape painter inspired by the expansive skies, canyons, and quiet beauty of Northern New Mexico.

My paintings begin with places I’ve experienced, but they are rarely about a specific view. I paint from memory, emotion, and intuition—allowing color, texture, and movement to reshape the landscape as I remember it.

There is something about the Southwest that continues to call me back: the vastness, the changing light, the layers of earth, and the stillness found beneath an enormous sky.

Through my work, I hope to create more than a sense of place. I want each painting to hold a feeling—one that leaves room for the viewer to bring their own memories and stories to the landscape.

About the Artist

Mary Mirabal is an abstract landscape painter whose work is rooted in memory, emotion, and a deep connection to the natural world.

Although based in Florida, Mary returns each summer to Santa Fe, where the expansive skies, rugged terrain, shifting light, and colors of Northern New Mexico have become an enduring source of inspiration.

Working primarily in oil and wax on panel, she builds her paintings intuitively through layers of color, texture, and movement. Rather than recreating a particular landscape, Mary allows memories of place to evolve on the surface, creating work that feels both familiar and imagined.

Her work has been exhibited throughout Florida and New Mexico and is held in private collections. Mary is represented by Acosta Strong Fine Art on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
