Walking on Sunshine is perhaps my most popular painting this year. It was inspired by a bouquet of sunflowers purchased at Trader Joe’s in Santa Fe, NM. Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers, and bring me so much joy. They are happy flowers, just begging for you to smile back at them. I’d purchased my weekly bunch to brighten up my rental casita; and when they were down to one last stem, I decided to paint something to capture the feeling of joy they’d brought me.

Sunflowers make up the genus Helianthus which contains almost 70 different species. The meaning of sunflower is rooted in it’s genus Helianthus- helios meaning sun and anthos meaning flower.

The original painting now resides in Portland, OR. You too can enjoy some sunshine in your home with canvas and print reproductions available through my Fine Art America shop.
