Hummingbird no. 2

Hummingbird no. 2

The Humble Hummingbird

June 2, 2015

I've had a fascination with hummingbirds since my first visit to New Mexico decades ago.   City life in Florida doesn't afford much opportunity to see these glorious, beautiful creatures.  I was blessed about a year ago with a hummer sighting in my back garden.  The visit lasted only a couple days, no doubt on his migration back to parts unknown.  But in the 40 years I've lived in my Florida home, this was the first time I'd ever seen a hummingbird in my garden.  You can't imagine my excitement!

The above photo is not great as I was using my cell phone and zooming in from my about 25 feet away so I wouldn't scare the little guy.  He was snacking from my Fire Spike plant.  He came to visit the garden in the mornings and I was so lucky to get this shot.

“Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. Hummingbirds open our eyes to the wonder of the world and inspire us to open our hearts to loved ones and friends. Like a hummingbird, we aspire to hover and to savor each moment as it passes, embrace all that life has to offer and to celebrate the joy of everyday. The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.”

Blessings by Mary Mirabal

Blessings by Mary Mirabal

"Blessings" a new painting by Mary Mirabal

May 28, 2015

With 2015 seemingly passing by so quickly, I found myself reflecting this week on the many blessings in my life.   Being able to create art is one of those blessings, so I was inspired to create this painting simply titled "Blessings".  Each of us face different challenges in this life, but when you actually take time to reflect and count your blessings your eyes become opened to all the gifts you've already received.  For me my faith, family, friends and health are the most precious.

For instance, my wonderful hubby of nearly 36 years reminded me this week that Tuesday was the 40th anniversary of our first date.  I had not even remembered this fact.  He earned brownie points for that!  Then, don't even get me started on our three sweet grandchildren.   Oh, and our two beautiful children who gave us our grands are pretty special too.

This painting can be reproduced on pillows, coffee mugs, tote bags, framed art prints, clocks and more.  Simply click the photo for more information on these products.

I hope you find time in your busy days to "stop and smell the roses" friends.  Every day we are given to spend with loved ones IS truly a blessing.  Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend to come.  Thanks so much for taking time to visit me.  Blessings ~ Mary

Sunflower Serendipity

Sunflower Serendipity

Sunflower Serendipity New Painting

May 21, 2015
“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. It’s what sunflowers do.”
— Helen Keller

Sunflowers are one my of my favorite flowers simply because they are "happy" flowers.  Their faces are always smiling and they never fail to to cheer me up whenever I see them.  I've even been know to buy myself my own sunflowers on occasion.  They are actually the only flower I buy for myself.  I believe they have the power to change moods.  How can you NOT be happy when in their presence?
